    Steel-string Acoustic Guitar & Ukulele

     

    Playing the guitar since childhood, I have always been a passionate musician. During classical guitar study at music school and learning the theory and performing techniques I began playing in various bands as a lead-guitar as well as composing own music. After graduating college I continued playing several years but establishing a professional artistic management enterprise entirely turned me into the managerial work until seeing and listening greatest-ever Tommy Emmanuel, the one of the strongest and deepest musical impressions which I had never even expected to discover in my life after the music of Bach, Chopin or Beatles.

     

    Tommy's sound and playing technique was a real re-discovery of the acoustic guitar and Fingerstyle technique, the method of playing on one instrument making it sound as a full band of guitars, bass, drums and even more. By launching two educational websites of Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar and Ukulele a wide variety of useful information and knowledge was translated and published in Georgian; both, Fingerstyle and Ukulele web-resources are the only ones in the fields available in the native language, these websites provide all necessary data related to history, artists, instruments, performing techniques including specific exercises and recommendations, golden rules, links to major manufacturers and online stores and communities, Fingerstyle TV and Ukulele TV Youtube channels; and additionally, websites offer giveaways and professional services of repair, adjustment and modification as well as quality handmade accessories unavailable locally.

     

    Live programs combine the most of the great fingerstyle music. Popular melodies of The Beatles, ABBA, Extreme, George Gershwin, John Newton, Claude Bolling, Ary Barroso, Tom Jobim, Jorge Ben, Stevie Wonder, Norman Whitfield, Michael Jackson in solo-fingerstyle guitar arrangements by the great Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Tommy Emmanuel, Laurence Juber, Andy McKee, Michael Chapdelaine, Earl Klugh, Adam Rafferty.

    However, alongside of learning new techniques and music I was forced to learn other new skills while dealing with instruments’ specifics, electronics and accessories; these activities helped me developing the skills of technician, repairman and accessory designer.

    Bone Nuts and Saddles

     

    Material of acoustic guitar nuts and saddles play a vital role in natural and full sound production, bone is providing of more clarity and sustain, crispier overtones, and more balanced highs and lows. Guitar nuts and saddles made out of natural bones are considered to be the best ever created and used. According to my many-years experience, these are the only ones found and/or offered domestically.

    Everything is important in acoustic instrument’s natural and full sound production and tone, and this is regarded to guitar picks’ material as well. These picks are made out Bakelite and Carbolite. Picks made out of bones, strong woods and stones are commonly used by many professionals. According to my many-years experience, these are the only ones found and/or offered domestically.

    Sound-hole Pickup

     

    This is my handmade and hand-wound replica of world-famous Fishman Rare Earth Blend Pickup. It is a dual-system of magnetic sound-hole pickup with miniature condenser microphone Oktava MKE-5B which has its miniature audio-transformer (40-16000 Hz, 250 Ohm, 4,5 V). Magnetic pickup has Single and Hum-canceling options (On/Off) - 3,4 kOhm and 1,6 kOhm respectively.

    The pickup has a weight of 2,5Oz (70gr); it uses the same neodymium magnet disks as original by Fihman.

    Ukulele Pickup System

     

    Handmade dual-system ukulele pickup with SBT piezo-elements & ECM microphone. SBT pickup uses similar design of K&K Sound pickups, two piezo disc-elements glued under the bridge-plate; operation mode - passive. There is an internal miniature condenser microphone Oktava MKE-5B with miniature audio-transformer installed in the body of ukulele.

    Handmade acoustic instrument combo amplifier Mr. Acoustic uses a common design and is assembled of vintage Hi-Fi electronics and legendary KinAp LOMO driver; preamp section is built on the base of Fender Acoustasonic circuits. The unit offers fine and clear sound reproduction.

  • ODEON OF HERODES ATTICUS, ODEUM

     

    Odeum, (Latin: “concert hall,” from Greek ōideion, “school of music”), comparatively small theatre of ancient Greece and Rome, in which musicians and orators performed and competed. It has been suggested that these theatres were originated because early Greek musical instruments could not be heard in the vast open amphitheatres in which dramatic performances were held.

    According to the Greek biographer Plutarch, of the 1st and 2nd century ad, the first odeum was built at Athens by the statesman Pericles about 435 BC. Adjacent to the Theatre of Dionysus, it was used for rehearsals. It differed from later odeums in its square shape and pointed roof. The Roman architectural historian Vitruvius, of the 1st century BC, states that it was burned during the Mithradatic wars of the 1st century BC.

    In ad 161 Herodes Atticus, a Greek scholar and philanthropist, built a new odeum at the base of the Acropolis, in memory of his wife, Regilla. In plan it was much like the semicircular Theatre of Dionysus, to which it was connected by an arcade. With 33 rows of seats, it accommodated approximately 6,000 spectators. It probably had a roof over the playing area. Largely rebuilt, it is still in use. Another odeum was built at Corinth, also by Herodes Atticus. Odeums were also constructed in most cities of the Roman Empire for use as assembly halls as well as for performances and contests.

    In ancient times, Odeums were built for musical contests and this ancient stone theatre has gone on to host some of the world’s best musical performances during the last 60 years since its modern day re-opening, including Nana Mouskouri, Luciano Pavarotti and Frank Sinatra to name a few.

    It was a true honor to being an initial co-founder and president of the League of Professionals, artistic management association pioneering the field in the performing and visual arts in Georgia in 1996. Within a long list of many local and international projects, production of the Guitar and "Jazz in Tbilisi" international festivals as well as organizing International Conference "Arts & Business - Common World" (Project of the law on sponsorship and charity in the spheres of culture) are the most significant to note.

     

    Managing local and international projects, I had a pleasure to communicate and work with many international institutions and organizations; I was privileged to collaborate with such business companies as Sheraton Metechi Palace Hotel, British Petroleum, British Airways, Aeroflot, Swissair, Turkish Airlines, D’Addario, Dean Markley, Ernie Ball, Music Man, Fishman, Schertler, and foundations as The John F.     International concert tour management was the most valuable and important activity supporting and promoting national culture world-widely.
